Essential Advice For Your Kilimanjaro Climb- Trekking Gear:

Kilimanjaro is Africa’s highest and most majestic mountain. Mount Kilimanjaro Climb not only offers wonderful scenic vistas but a thrilling experience too.

  • Walking sticks- Walking sticks will assist you during your climb, and support your knees on descents. Especially if you already have weak knee joints!
  • Boots- Your walking boots have to be solid and soft at the same time, the type that will resist the most extreme weather conditions out there!
  • Socks- Ragg Wool is best for you on your trip. Way more comfortable, but you don’t have to be allergic to it.
  • Sleeping Bags- Should be chosen wisely! Large variety of options, from “Down Sleeping Bags” (very resistant to water and cold), to “Hollow fibre” (synthetic fibre, dries rapidly), and “Thins late” (state-of-the-art synthetic fibre, economic, very light) types!
  • Sleeping mat- A sleeping mat is essential if camping but unnecessary if you’re following the Marangu Route, when you’ll be sleeping in huts. Trekking agencies usually supply sleeping mats – ask them before you buy one yourself.
  • Gloves- Two pairs highly recommended: a pair of wool or fleece gloves as a next to skin layer, and a second pair of waterproof gloves that go over the first pair!
  • Water Bottles- Drink, drink, and drink some more! Water is vital to appropriate adjustment, and so are water bottles! You should be able to carry 2-3 litres of water at any time!
  • Jacket & Trousers- Two words come to mind: comfort and waterproofing! The two items need to be waterproof, breathable and windproof.
  • Sunscreen- A high-factor sunscreen (35-40) is essential on Kilimanjaro.
  • Sunglasses- Sunglasses on Kilimanjaro are very, very necessary for the morning after you’ve reached the summit.

Carry everything in a waterproof bag or case, and keep at least the emergency stuff in your daypack where hopefully it will lie undisturbed for the trek’s duration.
